Ex-TPA Director Endorses NoJetsTO as Scarborough Speaks Out Against Jets

Former TPA Director Endorses NoJetsTO as Scarborough Speaks Out Against Jets at Public Consultation TORONTO – Former Toronto Port Authority Board member Doug Reid is endorsing the campaign to stop the Island Airport expansion. “Toronto’s waterfront belongs to everyone – it must not be compromised just to benefit a single private company,” Doug Reid said. “Putting jets on our waterfront is wrong, unnecessary – and it can be avoided." Doug Reid served on the TPA board of directors from 2006 through 2011. The Toronto-born and raised scholar is a professor at Queen’s University School of Business. “The TPA today is an airport authority in all but name – it has lost its way,” NoJetsTO chair Anshul Kapoor said. “Instead of being a steward of Toronto’s port, the TPA pushes for an Ottawa-sized airport on our waterfront.” “That a former TPA director speaks out against the jet plans should make City Councillors think twice about expansion” Kapoor added. “Councillors Ainslie, Crawford and Moeser should also question the TPA’s $2 million spending on misleading ads.” NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
