In Memoriam: Julie Tam

We are heartbroken that Julie Tam, a member of the NoJets Steering Committee, passed away suddenly earlier this summer.

Ed_Hore_Photo_Waterfront_Bike_Tour_2016-06-12.jpgThe avid community activist and kayaker died unexpectedly of a brain hemorrhage on July 6, 2016. Julie was a faithful friend, a pharmacist, a world traveller, and an experienced government relations expert who brought over twenty years experience of federal politics to our organization.

For what would be her final task for NoJetsTO, Julie was heavily involved in our successful Annual General Meeting on June 12, just weeks before her untimely passing. Julie acted as the driver and handler for our AGM keynote speaker Roland Lewis from New York City's Waterfront Alliance. She performed this task with characteristic efficiency and charm, welcoming the New York native Roland to Toronto (where he had never been). She also helped organize and participated in a bike tour along our revitalized waterfront together with Roland, NoJetsTO Chair Norman Di Pasquale, urban designer Ken Greenberg and Eti Greenberg (also on the NoJetsTO Steering Committee).

You can see Julie in the picture, with the red scarf, enthusiastically joining in and enjoying the adventure, as always. None of us knew that happy and beautiful day we wouldn't see her again. Julie will be profoundly missed.
