NoJetsTO Concerned about Porter Lobbyist Ties to John Tory

Former John Tory Campaign Executive Lobbying for Island Airport Expansion TORONTO – A former campaign executive of John Tory might end up exerting undue influence over the future mayor’s office on the waterfront jet file, research reveals. Vic Gupta, whose ties to Mr. Tory go back to the 2003 campaign when he served as his deputy campaign manager, has been lobbying City Council for the controversial Porter jet plans as senior counsel for Sussex Strategies. “We are concerned yet again by another connection between Mr. Tory and the pro-jets camp – this time a lobbyist. Mr. Tory’s former deputy campaign manager has been a key influencer at City Hall for Porter’s jet plans.”  Norman Di Pasquale, Acting Chair of NoJetsTO stated. “Will John Tory declare a conflict-of-interest now that more and more ties between him and Porter’s pro-jets forces come to light?” Not surprisingly, Mr. Gupta also appears to be a strong supporter of the John Tory campaign and former Ontario PC candidate, Justine Deluce, daughter of Porter Airlines owner and CEO Robert Deluce. “A day before Torontonians head to the polls, Mr. Tory has some serious questions to answer about his personal ties and potential conflict-of-interest on the jets issue,” Norman Di Pasquale added. “With John Tory’s personal connections to a key jets lobbyists, his son’s business interest at the Island Airport and recent endorsement activities for pro-jets candidate Carmichael Greb, the list of concerns keeps on growing. What is John Tory’s real agenda on the waterfront?” NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
