NoJetsTO Supports Queens Quay Revitalization, Points to Pro-Jets Detractors

Work of Waterfront Toronto Smeared by Backers of Island Airport Expansion TORONTO – NoJetsTO is reaffirming its support for the revitalization work done by Waterfront Toronto, including the highly complex infrastructure work on Queens Quay. Unfair criticism of the agency’s work has come largely from pro-jets forces to distract from the ongoing Island Airport expansion campaign. “Our city deserves a world-class waterfront and let’s be clear, it’s only because of Waterfront Toronto that we are getting there,” NoJetsTO Acting Chair Norman Di Pasquale pointed out. “It’s cynical that the loudest critics of Waterfront Toronto want to put a major jet airport right on our waterfront.” Waterfront Toronto, the tri-level government agency tasked with revitalizing the city’s waterfront, has created ten thousands of jobs and billions in economic benefits for Toronto. Projects like the Queens Quay overhaul and the planned Port Lands revitalization are garnering international attention from urban planners and designers. “The pro-jets camp tries to delegitimize Waterfront Toronto’s work to pave the way for their Island Airport expansion,” Di Pasquale added. “It’s a cheap ploy to distract the public both from the stunning results of the waterfront revitalization and from the ongoing pro-jets lobbying.” “Waterfront Toronto is one of the most effective and most open government agencies in our city,” the NoJetsTO spokesperson concluded. “What’s fiscally prudent is for City Council to safeguard our investment in our waterfront by stopping the Island Airport expansion.” NoJetsTO is made up of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a regional Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it. – 30 – For more information, please contact: Norman Di Pasquale, NoJetsTO Acting Chair, 647-808-2910 or media@nojetsto.ca
