Toronto Port Authority’s Veiled Endorsement of Jet Plans Shameful: NoJetsTO
TPA Board Chair Stumps for Porter, Flatly Denies Concerns about Jets on Toronto Waterfront October 21, 2013 TORONTO – Today the Toronto Port Authority brushed aside major concerns about Porter’s dangerous jet plans with a soft endorsement at a Toronto Board of Trade speech. “The TPA has effectively turned itself into a campaign stumper for Porter owner Deluce,” NoJetsTO chair Anshul Kapoor noted.“Instead of listening to residents’ concerns, TPA chair McQueen is soft-selling Porter’s dangerous jet plans for our waterfront.” In his presentation, Mark McQueen rejected concerns that the massive expansion of the Island Airport with jets will impact air quality, real estate values or the usage of the lake. “Claiming the jet expansion will not impact public health or Lake Ontario drips with ignorance for Torontonians,” Kapoor added. “Rejecting key issues before the City study is completed shows the TPA’s true colours.” “The Port Authority and Porter are in lockstep with the TPA taking on Toronto residents once again,” Kapoor concluded. “Mr. McQueen spent most of his time refuting and ridiculing legitimate concerns; I’m sure Mr. Deluce is happy.” NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO's goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
