Cancelling Waterfront Debate: Missed Opportunity for John Tory

NoJetsTO Expresses Disappointment After Frontrunner Cancels Mayoral Debate Voters deserved to hear from mayoral candidates on their vision for the Toronto’s waterfront, NoJetsTO makes clear after John Tory's announcement to bow out effectively cancelled the planned waterfront mayoral debate. "Mr. Tory’s cancellation is a missed opportunity to affirm his support for the work Waterfront Toronto currently does and will continue to do over the next session of council," Norman DiPasquale, Acting Chair of NoJetsTO, explained. “We are puzzled by Mr. Tory’s cancellation of the waterfront debate”, Norman DiPasquale added. “Citizens deserved to hear about Mr. Tory’s vision for our waterfront”. NoJetsTO is scheduled to meet with Mr. Tory in early October.  NoJetsTO will press Mr. Tory on the cancellation of the waterfront mayoral debate along with talking about Mr. Tory’s vision for Toronto's waterfront, the Island Airport expansion and the ongoing revitalization work. Toronto's waterfront revitalization has been the largest urban renewal project in North America, with 3 levels of governmental investments of $1.4B, with an ROI of $3.2B, and attracting private sector development of over $9B, creating a mixed-use waterfront that attracts over 17M visitors a year.  Waterfront revitalization at the Portlands will create over 40,000 jobs and have a Return of Investment of another $1.4B. NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents across Toronto, the non-partisan organization NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
