Lobbyist Fingers All Over City Pamphlet for Public Consultations on Jet Plans

NoJetsTO: Official Booklet Foreshadows Biased Staff Report, Spelling Trouble for Toronto’s Waterfront August 26, 2013 TORONTO – The City of Toronto has just published a pamphlet for the public consultation process for the dangerous Island Airport expansion plans that is full of bogus claims. NoJetsTO is rebuking the biased publication as the crucial public consultation process is about to begin. “The City’s brochure for the public consultations reads like it was written by Deluce lobbyists,” NoJetsTO chair Anshul Kapoor charged. “It’s a shame that the negative impacts on waterfront users and the environment are being denied.” Among other claims, the poorly researched City brochure stays silent on the impact on the waterfront as Toronto’s prime recreation and tourist destination. The booklet claims that the planned 70% increase in passenger numbers will not affect Pearson Airport and that the runway extension will not impact lake users. “This misleading document talks about how to make jets on the waterfront possible instead of taking a neutral approach,” Anshul Kapoor said. “Downplaying major risks for the waterfront is appalling and unworthy of the City.” “It is sad to see stakeholders from private pilots to boaters and conservationists let down by their City,” Kapoor continued. “NoJetsTO will continue to push for a fact –based report, not one that rolls out the red carpet for jets on the waterfront.” NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. Representing residents and organizations across Toronto, NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. NoJetsTO's goal is to protect the current Tripartite Agreement that governs the Island Airport.
