NoJetsTO Applauds Liberal Government Reaffirming Anti-Jets Pledge

Rejection of Expansion Clears Way to Focus on Waterfront Revitalization

NoJetsTO welcomes the incoming Liberal government’s reaffirmation of its anti-Island Airport expansion stance.

“The new federal government was elected on the promise of stopping the airport expansion and we are happy to see them stand by their word,” NoJetsTO Chair Norman Di Pasquale said. “Together with countless Toronto residents we are elated to see the Liberal’s pledge confirmed – it means the jets proposal is dead.”

Monday's reaffirming statement from Liberal spokesperson Daniel Lauzon comes at the heel of a meeting between NoJetsTO and MP Adam Vaughan (Spadina-Fort York) in which Vaughan confirmed the new government’s pro-waterfront position.

“We look forward to working with the new federal transport minister to move past the jets proposal and continue the revitalization of our waterfront,” Di Pasquale added. “The incoming federal government is making the right decision in putting the future of Toronto’s waterfront over the wrong-headed airport expansion plans.”

NoJetsTO is the largest group dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a regional Island Airport. As a citywide residents organization, NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways.
