NoJetsTO calls on Premier Wynne, NDP Leader Horwath to Speak Out Against Island Airport Plans
Torontonians Deserve to Know Where Provincial Leaders Stand on the Issue
TORONTO - NoJetsTO has called on Premier Kathleen Wynne and New Democratic Party leader Andrea Horwath to speak out against the proposed expansion of the Billy Bishop Toronto Centre Airport.
"The provincial government has invested millions in the waterfront revitalization - it's a has a clear stake in the continued vitality of Toronto's waterfront," Anshul Kapoor, chair of NoJetsTO noted. "The province needs to speak out against Porter's dangerous plans that threaten to undermine all that has been achieved."
Kapoor expressed disappointment, but not surprise, that PC leader Tim Hudak has endorsed Porter's plans, which would include permitting jets to fly in and out of the downtown airport. Former Deputy Mayor,Doug Holyday stood side by side with Hudak during the announcement.
"We need the other 22 Toronto MPPs whose constituents visit our waterfront and beaches to speak up against this reckless proposal," Kapoor concluded. "We also invite NDP leader Andrea Horwath to weigh in and to speak out for Toronto's precious waterfront."
NoJetsTO is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a boutique Island Airport. NoJetsTO’s goal is to preserve the status quo at the Island Airport by protecting the Tripartite Agreement that governs it.
