NoJetsTO Welcomes Air Canada’s Pro-Waterfront Stance on Jets

Flawed Process Revealed by Island Airport Tenant’s Statement TORONTO – NoJetsTO welcomes Air Canada’s position against the jet plans for Toronto’s waterfront. The Island airport tenant’s statement revealed the Port Authority’s bias and flawed review process for the expansion plans. “We are glad that one of the two tenant airlines at the Island Airport is taking a stance against jets,” NoJetsTO chair Norman Di Pasquale said. “NoJetsTO agrees with Air Canada that jets would violate the spirit and intent of the Tripartite Agreement.” “Air Canada gets it right – we don’t need a major jet airport on our waterfront to replace the current regional airport,” Di Pasquale continued. “We welcome the fact that Air Canada calls out the Port Authority on their flawed and biased expansion study.” Given Air Canada's desire for adding turboprop connections, NoJetsTO reiterates that any future growth at the Island Airport needs to take place within a framework of binding passenger and slot caps. NoJetsTO is the largest group dedicated to preserving Toronto’s mixed-use waterfront and a regional Island Airport. As a non-partisan organization representing residents from across the city, NoJetsTO opposes the expansion of the Island Airport through jet aircraft and extended runways. To date it has collected more than 19,000 petition signatures against the expansion plans.
