Porter attacks Toronto’s most popular visitor destination

Porter Airlines "Good Neighbour" policy includes industrialization of waterfront and negatively impacting WaterfrontBIA and Harbourfront Centre. Porter Airlines has recently negotiated an agreement with Standard Parking of Canada to establish a long term, off airport lands, parking site in the middle of Toronto’s most popular tourist destination.  This is an agreement designed to remove already scarce parking for tourists.  NoJetsTO understand that it was done without consultation with the Waterfront BIA, Harbourfront Centre and Waterfront Toronto. Pearson has both short and long term parking available within its own properties.  Pearson’s parking is in an industrial zone.  Billy Bishop uses a prime tourist destination. Porter has chosen a tourism zone for expansion of parking to accommodate its current passenger loads.  Porter’s chosen site is on Queens Quay across from Harbourfront Centre.  Queens Quay is currently in the midst of a major revitalization to make it the most famous boulevard in Toronto. This revitalization is designed by Waterfront Toronto to bring new life to the Waterfront. There are two visions for Queens Quay.  Parking lots to service Porter passengers using Billy Bishop Airport or Toronto’s Official Plan and Waterfront Toronto’s revitalization. 1) Porter's Claim to industrialize the waterfront with more traffic & taking a portion of limited parking spots: Parking Lot OR 2) A Revitalized waterfront for 17M visitors Waterfront_Toronto_Graphic_Simcoe_Slip_2013-10-05 Parking, at the best of times, is scarce in this area to serve Roger’s Centre, ACC, Ripley’s Aquarium, Harbourfront Centre and local businesses.  Why would Porter negotiate airport parking in the middle of all these important Toronto tourist focused, revenue generating, taxpaying facilities? NoJetsTO strongly believes that WaterfronTO, WaterfrontBIA and Harbourfront Centre should express their views on the Island Airport Expansion proposal as this is yet another example on how an expanded airport will negatively impact waterfront Revitalization & tourism to our waterfront. As part of its services, the Company will implement its Click and Park(R) online reservation system to process pre-paid parking reservations for Porter Airlines passengers. This agreement represents the first direct contract between SP Plus(R) Airport Services and a commercial airline. Porter proudly announces location of parking in its Reality Check document which was published to discredit citizen concerns with the airport expansion: Reality Check You’ve been hearing a lot of opinions about Porter Plans. We want to make sure you have the facts. Standard Parking operates a public parking garage at Lower Simcoe St. and Queens Quay W. Airport parking for staff and passengers is available at this location as of December 1. For easy access, Standard Parking will operate a free, dedicated shuttle bus between the parking garage and the airport. This service, which is a separate service from the airport shuttle, is part of Porter’s effort to minimize traffic for the local community.
