Ward 6 Councillor Candidate Michael Laxer Endorses NoJetsTO in Statement
After many years of positive developments and steps forward in reintegrating Toronto with its waterfront, Porter's plans to expand the Island Airport for jets will represent a terrible step back should they come to pass.
Toronto's Harbourfront should be a place of arts and culture, festivals, parks, tourism and a vibrant community to visit, live and do business in, not the site of a constant stream of jet aircraft flying in for the benefit of Porter's profits.Michael Laxer Council Candidate for Ward 6 Website Twitter Facebook
Councillor Candidate for Ward 34, Don Valley East, Endorses NoJetsTO The Island Airport should not be expanded. Scarce public dollars should not be used where there is limited, if any, public good. The increased air and noise pollution would degrade our environment further. There would be increased air pollution from the emissions. I have done research that show increased air pollution is linked to an increase in neurological diseases. Unless there are plans for a treatment system at the airport, toxic deicing fluids and fuel spills can get into the City’s sewer system. There are no good reasons to expand the airport.
Mary Hynes, Candidate for Toronto City Council, Ward 34
Prominent Social Justice Activist & Former Federal NDP Candidate (Trinity-Spadina) endorses NoJetsTO Toronto’s waterfront is home to thousands of residents, millions of annual visitors, 8 blue flag beaches, and countless recreational facilities. Waterfront revitalization is underway and thriving. Waterfront revitalization is a priority for our city and is simply not compatible with jets or expansion of the Island Airport. We must continue to work together as a community to ensure there are no jets at the Island Airport". Joe Cressy, City Council Candidate, Ward 20 Trinity Spadina
Trinity-Spadina Candidate Endorses NoJetsTO in StatementToronto's waterfront is a vibrant, busy jewel in the city's crown, where hundreds of thousands of our citizens live, work and/or play. The Toronto Islands are home to hundreds of species of birds and plants. All this will be endangered by the footprint of an expanded airport. We do not have the infrastructure to support an increase in foot, TTC and car traffic to the area that this expansion will bring. And the City does not have the hundred plus million dollars to redesign Bathurst Quay to accommodate this major change. Say 'no' to the Porter expansion - say 'yes' to preserving the beauty of Toronto's waterfront and islands. Ward 7 TDSB Trustee Candidate Endorses NoJetsTO TORONTO - A growing number of candidates for Toronto's school board are coming forward to endorse the fight against the Island Airport expansion. From concerns about the impact on local schools to environmental concerns, the reasons vary from candidate to candidate. Below is the endorsement statement from Jeffrey Freeman, TDSB school board trustee candidate for Ward 7 (Parkdale High Park). Statement by Jeffrey Freeman: I'm running for trustee for Ward 7 (Parkdale High Park) for the Toronto District School Board and I would like to endorse the efforts of NoJetsTO. My ward as you know is a waterfront community and the impact on our area would be immense if the Porter plan proceeded as planned. Please keep up the good work and certainly let me know how I can support your efforts. Jeffrey Freeman Ward 7 TDSB Trustee Candidate Candidate website
Ward 20 City Council Candidate Endorses Fight Against Expanded Island Airport in Statement TORONTO - The waterfront represents an opportunity to celebrate Toronto's unique geography and build an inspiring and sustainable area that contributes to the livability of all Toronto residents. I support the work that NOJetsTO is doing to raise awareness of the negative consequences that would result from expanding the island airport, and I have pledged to fight against the expansion if elected to city council. We must have a representative that stands up to special interests and defends our communities. Ryan Walters, Candidate for City Council, Ward 20 Candidate website Link to statement
Green Party of Ontario Candidate Daniel Stein endorses NoJetsTO
We can't let our desire for rapid transit to the airport damage one of this city's natural treasures, the island and our waterfront. Let's build electric trains to Pearson and protect the island we love.

Green Party of Ontario Leader releases statement supporting NoJetsTO campaign
I am honoured to sign the NoJetsTO pledge because I believe that the waterfront must be redeveloped according to the needs of the majority of its residents. Development should preserve and advance the waterfront as a vibrant, community space for all citizens to enjoy. As many condo dwellers and users of the waterfront already know, the planes that currently use the island airport are a source of both air and noise pollution. Should larger jets be allowed to take off from Billy Bishop, the noise and pollution would be even worse. This pollution, in addition to the expansion of the runway, has potential to lead to a plethora of environmental and safety concerns. The GPO questions the benefits of the proposed expansion. It would ultimately prioritize the convenience of those who use the airport over the needs and well-being of the majority of downtown residents. For these reasons, the GPO insists that we halt expansion plans and have an honest, responsible discussion about the future of Toronto's waterfront and island airport.Sincerely, Mike Schreiner Green Party of Ontario Leader

The Island Airport is like an alcoholic installing a liquor cabinet within reach of his bed.
While convenient, the long-term price of an expanded Island Airport is a traffic-clogged, noisy waterfront. And with the planet roasting, flying is highly carbon-intensive. We need to start finding alternatives, ways to fly less frequently, not ways to make it more convenient for ourselves.
If we can't all take responsibility soon, it's a lot more than a hangover we'll wake up with...
For Torontonians and our guests, let's focus on the rail link to Pearson vs. expanding the Island Airport.

Provincial Green Party Candidate in Trinity Spadina endorses NoJetsTO As the chair of the Harbord Village Residents’ Association prior to the election, I persuaded our board to endorse the No Jets campaign. At the time, we were the first group outside of the waterfront to do so. I was pleased that some of our neighbouring residents’ associations then followed suit. And once HVRA’s endorsement was secured, I purchased 26 No Jets signs and found homes on each one of the blocks here in the Harbord Village. Many more residents subsequently obtained signs, and it is unlikely any neighbourhood – outside of the waterfront – is so publicly opposed to the expansion of the BBTCA.
